Trapped!

When we meet the strong and brave Odysseus he is trapped on Calypso's island.  Calypso is holding him there and Odysseus is anxious to escape.  During his long days, Odysseus stares off to the sea, crying desperately, wishing Calypso would allow him to return to his beloved wife, Penelope and home, Ithaca.  Zeus, the kind 'man' he is, sends the messenger Hermes to relay his message to Calypso. She must release Odysseus. Odysseus works diligently to build a raft to begin his journey home, but Poseidon, the sea god, for some odd reason dislikes Odysseus.  He creates a terrifying storm, wrecking Odysseus' carefully built raft on another island's shore, where Odysseus falls into a deep sleep.
